There was a 260 cubic inch engine that was put in the early 65 Mustangs that was less than 200 hoursepower. Starting in August of 1964 Ford introduced the 289 C, A and K code engines. There was never an F code Ford engine in 1965 production cars. The early mustangs either had a 170 CI 6 banger, or a low compression D code 4 barrel V8.

Thank you Soaring, it was my fault not to mention that was a early production (641/2).

Wait, I'm confused. IIRC, there were never an '64 1/2 fastbacks built, just coupes and convertibles. So how could it be an F code fastback?

There are NO 65 fastbacks with an F engine code...
Sometimes people get the plant code (2nd digit) confused with the engine code (5th digit). An F plant code is common, an F engine code is a whole 'nother deal.

If you have a car with a VIN beginning 5F09F######, it would be news to the Mustang world.

There are a few front end 'clip' jobs that used other Mustangfronts, 64 included, welded up to 65 or 66 fastback bodys. They must be a mess to register.

+1 on the fastback not being a 64 car i have a fairly early 65 fastback with a few 64 features but i have the alt charging system but i have clip on door handles etc. alsoth there are no 64 gt models also.

and the car could be a clipped car as stated above or maybe just that one inner fender apron remove the right fender and see if the hidden vin matches the left side

If you're looking at buying it I would stay away from it. It could have been wrecked and then someone clipped it as others are saying. It could also be a '64 1/2 coupe that was converted into a fastback. Or they could have had a 64 1/2 VIN and title and stole the fastback and switched everything over. If it's any of the above the car is worthless IMO.

Thank you guys, for your information ,I am not looking at to buy it ( I already have a 66 FB) this car belongs to a gentleman that I meet short time ago,he buy it on 1996 and is on his garage since them, he has no knowledge regarding Mustangs and told me to take a look at it.
It is a FB, I check the vin # on the fender apron and shows to be a 65 R ( San Jose CA) code with and F engine, also noticed that the door ID tag is missing, however the door seems to be the original, the car is on primer and the body seems to be very straight I was unable to check further because is cover with boxes all around.
Any way like I mention I am not interestd on it, beside this person is notplaning to sell it andlike many other owners that have cars seating for a long time he said "I am planing tofix it in the future".
Yourcomments regarding clipped and converted # are very valid and probably more in this case because the missing door ID tag..very very interesting
