Tank Armor in

RE: Tank Armor in
In 15 or 20 minutes I could weld up a cover for the filler, well so could anybody with some welding experience. Just for discussion purposes, does anybody have any idea how many Mustangs, Falcons, Comets and Fairlanes (I may have missed some Ford products) have been hit in the rear and had catastrophic results because the gas tank top was the trunk floor?

it has always seemed like an engineering flaw to me - no structural frame bits between the gas tank the interior of the car. I would say that pretty much anyone could fab something like this up and I plan on doing this myself (helps that our company has a fab/welder onsite).

The problem ended in the 71 model year for Mustangs - and reappeared in police equipped Crown Victoria's. Ford should have made a gas tank with a fuel cell for the PD cars. To many get rear ended on the roads by drunks.
