Default rear disks

just got my rear axle back from the blaster today and decided that I dont want to put the old drums back on. They are in bad shape anyways and I would rather spend the money on disks. Question is which cars have rear disks and 8 inch rear ends? I know the explorers have an 8.8 but I have heard rumors about different bearing sizes.

I have an 8.8 out of explorer in mine. It came with 3.73's, posi, and rear disks for $1200 out the door. I thought that was pretty good. And Im happy with the result!!

One cheap way to go, if you have a little ability to fabricate, is to take the rear end setup off of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, (97)and strap it to your 8 inch. I did this. I had to redrill the dust shield and caliper mounting bracket, then I had to fab a spacing ring to hold the bearings in with the vintage keeper plate. The center hub also needed a similar spacer to fit between the center hub anda standard rim. Then the existing vintage emergency brake cables were used to activate the E-brake shoes (a small, square bracket was fabbed to connect the cable to the wheel levers. I did the Granada setup in front and the Jeep in back, and then I have a 74 Mavrick booster and Master Cylinder. I have yet to adjust a single thing. I used 15" TT2's. It couldn't stop any straighter, and I've yet to have any lock-up issues. Very pleased, and about $500 for all four corners. Maybe the high dollar stuff is better, but I can't imagine how.

Currieenterprises.com has some nice rear disc options. I know the kit with drilled 11" rotors came to 499.
That utilizes big bearings though and is essentially the same as an explorer's brakes.

You can also get some conversion brackets that allow swaps from sn95's, same year cobra's(bigger), and Mark VII's.

I have a set from disk brake swap for the front. I would like to see how you did your backs scouttrooper. I haven't really looked at how the rears are on cars. None of my vehicles I own have rear disk so I have nothing to go off of. I am sure I can fabricate whatever I want I just dont want to spend alot more money than I have to. I would like to go to a wrecking yard and pull what I need and rebuild those.

The 8" and 9" small bearing rear ends can use the rear disks off a Crown Vic from the mid 90's. The large bearing 9" can use the Explorer rear disk setup from what I was able to find out.

At least I hope so since I have the Crown Vic setup sitting next to my 9" small bearing housing waiting for me to get time to put it on. I will need to do a little fabricating, but I got the setup with e-brake cables intact for $130.

If I didn't want or know how to do the fabrication I would get a kit.
