Shifting on a hil

Shifting on a hil
If I'm on a steep incline (steep driveway going into the garage) and put it in park, when I go to leave and put it in reverse, it takes a whole lot of muscle strength to move the shifter and it shifts REALLY hard.
Is this normal?

Yeah, you need to start using the parking brake. What you're doing is resting the car's weight on a single small pin inside the transmission. This pincan break. When youstop on an incline like that, set the parking brake, THEN put the tranny into park. This leaves the weight of the car on the parking brake instead.
