Default Oil Leak

Recently put in a new 347 and finally got it started on just the headers, so did not run it very long. Sending car to muffler shop this week. Anyway, I had the car jacked up (front only) to work on the R&P, when I noticed a pretty nice Oil leak coming from the rear of the engine. The leak was coming down the in between the oil pan and block plate. Is the rear main seal not seating correctly, or could it be coming from a bad seal on the back of the pan?

I assume you have a roller cam? If not you need to break the cam shaft in. Good luck with the oil leak. Hopefully it's just a pan gasket. You should be able to crawl under there and see where it's coming from. If you have the front of the car jacked up it could be anything from a valve cover to a manifold leak.

yea its a roller cam b303. The more I think about it, it is probably the oil pan. I had to remove it before we started the car. The oil pump shaft was not lining up, so had to pull the pan for that.Maybe that was when I screwd up the oil pan gasket. I will update in a couple of weeks.

Check the back of the intake manifold before going crazy with the pan and/or main seal.

This area is prone to leak if not sealed up "just right", and can mimic a rear seal/pan leak...
