1969 Coupe - Questions
I recently picked up a 1969 coupe. I am told that the original motor was replaced by a Boss 302 motor somewhere down the line. Where do I check on the engine to get the code that would ley me know what exactly it is? Also, how do I know if the heads match the motor? Is there anything else I need to check?
I recently had it in the garage and have it running fairly good now, but the carb is pretty shot. What would you recommend - an Edelbrock or Holley 4 barrel carb?
Thanks for your time. I am sure I will have more questions as I get into making this car nice.

RE: 1969 Coupe - Questions
I checked out the motor today and found the following numbers:
On top behind the carb: 15426878
Infront of the carb: CBAE-9425-B - The first B could be an 8 - I couldn't tell.
And on th sticker on the valve covers, it says C9AE-9C485-B
Can someone tell me what these mean and where else should I look?

RE: 1969 Coupe - Questions
Seems like a lot of people who don't really know what they are talking about think all 302s are Boss302s. I've heard this too many times.
And a guy at work who owned a 69 mach1 a while back claimed it had a 351C...from the factory. I called his bluff and after he described some things about it, I proved it was indeed a 351W. Just becareful out there, most people don't know what they're talking about, but really like the way some things sound as it rolls off their tongues...

RE: 1969 Coupe - Questions
the 15426878 behind the carb is the firing order, and it should be 378 not 878.
The first b is an 8. C8AE I beleave that's your head code
Run a google search for the casting #'s you'd be suprised what you might find.

RE: 1969 Coupe - Questions
Mach is correct on the BOSS thing. The Boss had Cleveland heads which used a different intake and valve covers. A lot of people call all 302's a BOSS. As for the part numbers on the intake...C8AE would be a 68 part number. Ford uses letters for a prefix for the year...C is 60...D is 70...E is 80...etc. D2 would be 72 for example. The rest is the part number (9425) and the B is the revision I believe.
