rack and pinion steering conversion
I have a 68 mustang coupe with power steering and i have always had problems with my steering. wether it is the hoses getting to hot and burning and leaking or the steering just isnt very tight. i have try Y headers on my car so i had to get the lowering bracket for the Ram. i want to to convert it to rack and pinion because im hoping that that will take care of my problems. can anyone let me know if there is a good product that i can get, or should i just run the hoses a different route. also i want to change it because i cant turn all the way left it only goes like 3/4 of the way. in the future im going to get disc brakes also so if anyone knows a kit that contains it all it would be much appreciated.
thanks

I have recently had 3 catalogs sent to me from NPD, Mustangs Plus, and Texas Mustang, and I believe all 3 have the kit in them. It's supposed to be completely bolt in to the stock spindles, and the manual rack is supposed to feel like a p/s unit. They're something like $1200 for the rack or $1600 or so for the rack w/ a new tilt steering column. I was looking at this for my 64 1/2 among other things. All in all looks like a good deal, esp if you want to get rid of the crappy factory p/s and make it handle tighter. If you're looking at doing a lot of things to your car, I'd reccomend calling/e-mailing people like Texas Mustangs, NPD, Mustangs Plus, and the like. I had to call 3 places before I got good enough customer service to place my order when I got my gas tank and other stuff (Texas Stang) but even they weren't too great. Hope this helps...
Buyer beware when somebody claims 'bolt in'. It only applies to a pure stock configuration...headers can cause fitment problems that require modification and fabrication than can cost time and money.
