#4 looks like a ground but you should verify that with a wiring diagram. Hard to tell from your picture what is going on with #3. It looks like a factory wire splice.
#5 should be going to a capacitor.

Picture 3 is the S&I wires for the starter solenoid as I now understand. Picture 4 does appear to be a ground cable. Picture 1 and 2, I'm unsure about... The first one, it appears to be a green wire coming out into a rubber style boot or connector. Picture 2 shows a yellow wire, like the green one that comes into a boot or connector, however this one has another rubber boot or connector inside of it, and it ends with a spliced wire leading nowhere.

You know, after looking at a few of the pictures I have seen on here, I don't see any with the extra wires I have. The pic up top with the rag on it, the green wire looks like its part of the harness where mine goes into a rubber boot connector and that's it. The yellow ones also look like they go into the harness, where one of mine goes into a rubber connector and then to a bare wire. I'm confused more than ever

bumpity bump, looking for any other support on what the other 2 wires may be for. I don't want to install the new starter solenoid and voltage regulator and have something burn out or it not work.

Jcomp, in the picture you have shown, there is the yellow wire I'm confused about and wanted to know what the item in the red rectangle I pointed to on your photo is. My wire ends right before that cylinder like item. Anyone with the answer, please assist.

I believe that cylinder is a capacitor, sometimes called a condenser. The wiring diagram doesn't show it and I haven't looked it up in the factory repair manual to see what its function is.

However, usually when a capacitor is in a circuit and connected to ground it is usually there to either store power or to filter out an AC component on a DC voltage. I'd guess that one is a filter cap for removing any AC ripple that gets through the rectifier. But that's just a guess. I'm not really up on the system in the car, mine is being replaced by an internally regulated alternator and all the old parts are in storage in case I decide to restore the car some day.

that cylinder is the condenser for the radio. It filters out electronic noise that would otherwise be heard through the radio.

so I'm assuming not having it will not cause any problems with starting the vehicle and running it at this time?
