removing gas tank 65
my car is leaning out past 4k rpms and I have checked out just about everything. Now I am going to see what the sock looks like on the fuel tank sending unit. I think it might be the original. What I want to know are there any tricks/tip to removing the tank and sending unit? What tools might I need.

Do you have any fuel filters in line? or part of the fuel pump? The originals in fuel tanks just had a metal screen.
Barring no other choices, you don't need to remove the tank to access then sending unit. Drain the tank if it has a sump drain, otherwise get something to pump it out as low as you can. The sender is held in place by a camloc ring and rubber gasket. Take the short rubber fuel line loose. Get a BRASS punch and a plastic deadblow hammer... and knock the lock ring loose. be ready for any gas to spill out. After you remove the ring and gasket, the unit slips out.

Just drain the tank down as low as possible and then remove the locking ring that holds the sending unit in place!! DO NOT USE ANYTHING TO KNOCK IT LOOSE THAT WILL CREATE SPARKS!!!Use a brass punck or something made of hardened plastic and knock it loose with a plastic hammer or a rubber mallet. Before going thru all this I would check ALL your fuel filters first!! Good Luck!!

removed the sending unit today. I just put lots of tape around my hammer and screw driver. Yeah kinda sketchy but I don't have many tools. Here are some pictures of what it looks like. Also the gas tank had a drain plug and I didn't have to take out the gas tank itself.

Good or bad thing when I removed the sending unit there was no sock?

Well the bad news is there is supposed to be a wire screen over that fuel line intake... it's probably laying the bottom of your tank.
The good news is that since there is no restriction on the end of the tube, that's not your problem.
What type of fuel pump are you running? Got a pic?
