Intake & Carb Installation ?
I'am installing a new Edelbrock intake on my 67 289, I have an Edelbrock 4bblcarb on the stock intake now. Do I need to use the spacer plate under the carb or can I just bolt the carb to the newintake andreroute the line from the PVC to the carb instead of the the spacer plate. Also when I install the intake gasket do I use sealent as well and on one side or both of gaskets. Thanks

You won't need the spacer plate with the new intake/carb setup.
When installing gaskets, I always paint a paper think layer on both mating surfaces, let them tack up, then install.

You don't NEED the spacer, but it will give you a bit better performance. Do a google search and you'll see some tuning and dyno runs with different sized spacers.

Historically, there have been sealing issues with the factory spacers on aftermarket manifolds. I'd ditch it and try to dig up a phenolic spacer for it. It will help with top end power and reduce heat soak issues. Meanwhile, go ahead and slap the carb directly on the intake. If you can, finda thicker gasket to insulate it from the manifold.
For the intake, ditch the cork seals and use a bead of high temp black RTV in their place, with a dab more at each corner where the block and heads meet. Then smear a very thin layer around both sides of each coolant port on the intake gaskets. Make sure you slap it together quickly after that, the thin layer dries quickly.

A spacer will help with performance gains(not noticeable). And as Starfury mentioned, it will reduce heat soak. You can find spacers at about any parts store. They make aluminum spacers with plastic venturies that are affordable. They come in a kit with the studs and both gaskets for around $20-$30.

spacers dont always give a performance gain, it depnds on the overall combo take a stock eng with a performer intake it will kill low end. Spacers usually give more gain at top end or extend the rpm range of a manifold, it all depends on the combo, with some single planes adding a 4 holle spacer will help low end, with dual planes it can help with top end or do nothing at all, with intakes with a small plenum on a higher HP eng they can help a lot. the stock ford spacer plate on a stock CI ford 4bbl intake will not even work with an aftermarket intake.
