Default Shorty Headers?

I tried installing long tube headers (Flowtech) but could not get them to fit since I have rack and pinion steering. The long tubes also hit my clutch cable (T-5).

What shorties should I get?

I just ordered a set of BBK shorties. I have heard great things about BBK and JBA.

I heard lots of horrible (exhaust leaks) things about the Hedman shorties.

Hedman makes shorties specifically for a 66' Mustang. BBK makes shorties only for late model Mustang 5.0

Will I have any issues with the BBK's with my T-5 clutch cable or rack and pinion steering?

Thanks :-)

I haven't actually installed any shorties, but I've heard nothing but good things about the JBA's and I've seen a couple in 65-66's. Top quality construction and fit. As you said, BBK is more of a late-model oriented company. Although they should fit, I'd rather get the JBA's and know for sure that they'll work.

We used these headers on my son's 66. Virtually the same car, cable clutch, rack and pinion. Difference is we are running a 351 which makes things a little tighter, so I had to modify the headers a little where they were touching the shock towers, I don't think this would be an issue with a 289/302 though.

IMO these are good headers that look good. I am 99% sure that these will fit well on your car, even though they are specifically made for a 351.

There are certainly better headers than these, but I think these are good enough, and then some, the price is right when compared to other brands, and I all but absolutly know they will fit your car.

The below linkis supposed to be the right headers for your application, but you will see that they are quite a bid different in shape and routing than the 351 headers. Will they fit also? maybe, but like I say, I am 99% sure the 351 set will work.

Thanks for the quick reply. The ceramic coat is a little too much for me right now.

I heard people *not* like the painted Hedman headers. I called summit and they gave me the same part numbers as you provided me (Thanks)

The BBK headers look to have the same shape as the Hedman so I wouldn't imagine there being any problem.

I know Sanderson makes them specifically for $275. The BBK chrome shorties are only $175 from Summit.

I figure if I got the long tubes to fit (besides them rubbing against my R&P) then I should be able to get a set of BBK to fit (as long as they are block huggers - unequal length)

I will keep everyone posted. I am glad I am the guinnea pig for everyone else out there

Why hasn't anyone else ran into this problem...there are soooo many 5.0 conversions out there...jeeze [8D]

I know that there is quite a bit of difference in quality between the ceramic coated and non ceramic coated Hedman headers. The welds and joining of the flanges and tubes is significantly better on the ceramic coated headers andthe flange is a lot thicker on the ceramic coated headers.

But, these are only $150.00..... This can be interpirted as "you get what you pay for", or "wow, those are cheap enough that I can use them for a while and then throw them away...."

Trust me, this has been an issue for lots of people on here, they just are not here "right now"....

We just got lucky and found something that workedok the first time.

Flowtech long tubes don't work.

I returned the BBK shorties today. They looked *really* nice but they were farther from fitting than the Flowtech long tubes.

I have the Hedman 88400 on my way to my house now. They *should* work from everything I have read.

I was going to go for the JBA since they are located right next to my house...The Hedman's are $180 less however

I will post some photos after I get them in

patriot tri-ys fit nice. Just need the power steering drop down bracket. They are not top notch headers, but io think for the price and the fit, they are well worth it. Just need to coat them.
