Holley 570 is more than enough. You should do the lifters when you do the cam. Best to find a cam/lifter combo.

There is no 'should' about it. You absolutely have to replace the lifters with a flat tappet cam.

the link i provided was a cam and lifter set, and its not that you *should* do lifters with a new cam.... you *have* to do lifters with a new cam (except rollers)

My bust, lifters are included in the Summit kit. They were not pictured so it messed me up.

I'm running a roller cam h/c/i + internals and use the 570cfm carb.

I'd go for heads, you'll get more power out of a set of good heads + stock everything else, than from doing a cam/intake/carb combo, especially with a smaller cam that will work with the stock springs. Then, with a set of assembled heads, you have the right springs etc to match a better cam/intake combo later on.

Then there's the already mentioned rod bolt and gearing issue. The cam in that kit is a rather peaky cam, fair bit of duration and overlap, it'll make good peak power, but suffer somewhat down low with stock gearing.

So would he better off upgrading the heads first? That would allow him to run the bigger cam like he wants and the free flowing heads would also allow him to run around a 670cfm carb right? would a kit like this work better http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
the EdelBrock performer RPMtopend kit is a nice kit I'm geting one!!! you "have to" get new lifters to go with the cam!!!! if you like you'r new cam to stay new.......lol

weiand #8124 intake
holley 570 street avenger
summit .471 lift cam

so those would be good stuff like in that kit? um I want a good cam and lifter kit. And you guys are talkin about gears? do you mean the rear axle? I want a loppy cam sound but a better performance over the stock. Also i can get a cheap performer RPM intake so would i wanna get that and a Holley avenger Carb 570cfm. What cam would be good?? the one posted? and what gasket set would be good for re-build?

Honestly, I don't like that particular cam grind. The Comp Cams and Edelbrock grinds are far superior and will give you a broader, more streetable power band. You get what you pay for, basically.

"Lopey" is subjective. Both of the cams I suggested will give a rather mild lope but have a noticable power increase over stock. The thing is, lope is caused by valve overlap, which goes hand in hand with high-rpm power (usually). Your factory engine isn't designed to spin that fast so there's no point in putting in a lopey cam that makes power up to 6500. Stick with something that will work with what you've got.

Yes, by gears we mean those in the rear end. Your factory gears are likely 2.80:1 or 3.00:1, designed for efficiency rather than acceleration. By moving the cam's power band up the rpm range you're decreasing low-end torque. To counter this and keep the car streetable you need to decrease (increase numerically) the rear gear ratio. With the cams I recommended you should be able to get by with the factory gears, but you'd still greatly benefit from a set of 3.25's or 3.50's.

+1

star i didnt look at the cams you had selected - what kinda lift are they? i like to recommend that summit grind because its cheap, its proven, and it works with stock components.

jerm, hit me up if you want to save some green on the 570 - and yes a performer rpm would be a good intake. the 8124 would give you a tad more on the bottom end, but the rpm is always a good intake to use.
