discbrakeswap kit and new rear axle. what brakelines will I need ?
Hiya all,
I'm currently planning on doing the discbrakeswap together with a new 9" rear axle, which comes with 9" discs as well.
As all the brake system will be new then (front, back and master), I want to replace _all_ existing brake lines.
Does anyone know what I'll need exactly ?
are there complete kits out there or will I have to fabricate ?
or are there diagrams that show what lines should be there so I can go and order them oine by one ?
I have a single master at the moment, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm missing.
I'll need back to front:
one hardline going from left to right over axle.
one softline connecting rear axle brake line to chassis.
one hardline going to proportioning valve and from there another going to master brake cylinder.
that should be the rear accomodated
for the front:
2 soft lines (one each side) to chassis (come withg discbrakeswap kit)
from there a hardline each to master cylinder.
Do I have that right ? Am I missing something ? anyone any documentation or other help?
Kalli

RE: discbrakeswap kit and new rear axle. what brakelines will I need ?
Sounds to me like you've got your info straight so far. Most of the mustang vendors offer completehard line kits in standard and stainless, generally you have to purchase the soft lines separately. The only issues I see you having is the hard lines for your rear axle (I'm in the same boat with a Versailles rear), and your proportioning valve (as this is different from the factory set up). For that, you can either order a full kit and modify the lines, or pick up some straight lengths from a local parts store and bend them up to fit. Either way, shouldn't be too hard, just time consuming. Might also want to pick up a double flaring tool, if you end up cutting the lines to fit you will need this (and a bit of practice with it till you can get good flares out of it). Also, You will probably be better off with the standard kit if you go that route, as stainless has a reputation of being a bit more difficult to work with.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

thanks man. I wrote the man who sells the rear axle if there's a hard line with it. I'm buying the rear brakes off him as well, maybe he already has something with it or in stock.
apart from that the front rubber lines (2) are with the discbrake swap kit. So does the following order make sense ?
(i always have to be sure before ordering in states as I live in Europe ....)
taken from NPD catalogue (no matter for the moment if stainless or not), just the amount and the parts over rear end still missing in order:
################################################## #########
Hardlines front
2265 BRAKE LINE SET, Front
Front sets include lines from the master cylinder to any
distribution blocks or proportioning valves to the front
brake flexible hoses. All lines are CNC bent in either
carbon steel or in stainless steel for improved durability
or show. Concours approved. UPS oversize.
front prebent (for disc 4 pieces)
Stainless steel............................2265-4S 44.95
################################################## #########
HARDLINES BACK
2265 BRAKE LINE SET, Rear
Rear line runs from either the distribution block or the
proportioning valve to the rear flexible line near the rear
axle. All lines are CNC bent in either carbon steel or in
stainless steel for improved durability or show. Concours
approved. UPS oversize.
back prebent (fact dual exhaust, discs)
Stainless steel............................2265-6AS 45.95

RE: discbrakeswap kit and new rear axle. what brakelines will I need ?
I just recently bought all new brake lines for my 67. I ordered the disc brake package line setup. I had to get the front brake set, front to rear lines, and rear lines. My prop block is a all-in-one prop block/dist block from SSBC. I know there are a few short lines I will need to connect this to the master cylinder. I haven't installed anything yet, my rear lines are on backorder.[:@] I plan on starting with the new power booster/master cylinder and prop block this weekend. And then running new lines to where they need to go. I went with the steel lines as I've heard the stainless are harder and more difficult to work with. I plan on painting the lines anyways to match the underside. All my lines have the connectors on them which makes it easier. Hopefully they will fit with no problems. Yeah right.

thank you for that info as well.
whenever I look at your avatar it looks like the stang is falling over to one side or another any second.
Is that really safe what you're doing with the 2 jack stands so close together ?

lol. It was only that was for a short time. They have since been relocated. Sometimes we try and do things that, in hindsight, were pretty dumb. The stands at the rear had the balance. Since you mentioned it, I hope to have the stang on it's own support in the next month. That's when my wheels should be here with new tires! It's been over a year since it had stood on it's own. Can't wait. Good luck with your brake job.
