Getting ready for the Swap

Getting ready for the Swap
I'm getting ready to swap in a T5 in place of my c4 and have a few questions. I've read a ton of material on the T5 swap- but it all seems to be v8 specific.
I have an I6 ,will the bellhousing from my automatic work with the T5? If not what do I need? The t5 I bought is from a 92 5.0, and it came with the bellhousing.
Also, my driveshaft will have to be shortened, how do I go about getting that done? Or is there an after market shaft that is specifically for the T5 swap?
Thanks

RE: Getting ready the Swap
You can not use the automatic bell housing with a T5. What year is the I6? some of the later I6 cars had the same bell housing pattern as a V8 and in that case the bell you have would be a direct bolt up. Unfortionataly it wasn't tell the 80s that ford did that so if it is an original I6 than your only option is to get a manual bellhousing and clutch for a 6 cyl car and then use an adaptor plate. like this one http://206.145.86.220/catalog/images...26BW%20ADAPTER
I may have one that will work depending on which bell housing you end up with, that I can sell you for about 2/3 the normal price

RE: Getting ready the Swap
My I6 is original.
So I'll need to find a classic manual bellhousing that was behind an I6?
If anyone out there comes across one, or has one they'd like to sell, drop me a line.
Thanks

RE: Getting ready the Swap
Ok, So I ended up buying the bellhousing from a Bronco with a 200. Anyone know if this will work for my T5 conversion?
Thanks

RE: Getting ready the Swap
AscolA,
I'm doing a T-5 swap as part of my resto-mod on my 65 vert I-6. The bellhousing I'm using came from a 67 with a 3.03 3 speed. The T-5 kit I bought came from Dark Horse Performance, which included the adapter plate and bolts, yoke, and custom crossmember. I'm using a 9" flywheel from an I-6 Bronco, and a 9†clutch, and diaphragm type pressure plate kitfor a mid 70's Maverick. Only problem with an I-6 clutch kit is that the throwout bearing will not fit theT-5, so you will need theone designed for theT-5. You will probably have to have an inch or so cut off of the driveshaft, and will need to make sure that the driveshaft end matches the the U-Joint size of the yoke. Some T-5 kits come with a custom yoke that matches the I-6 driveshaft end. Or you can have a V8 end welded on. Of course, you will also need a new pedal set for a manual transmission if you are converting from a C-4.
You may want to go check out www.fordsix.com There are posts on dozens of T-5 conversions there and alot of people who can help you figure out problems that you may have with the conversion.
Hope this helps.
