4 jack stands - ok to do with engine still in?
I know it might be a stupid question, but I'm just trying to play it safe. I know I can have the rear jack stands on the front part of the rear frame, but for the front, is it relatively safe to have the other pair of stands on that bar under the oilpan? Or is there a safer spot? The labels on the jack stands warn only to use 1 pair at a time.
Once it's up on the stands, is it ok to get inside the interior?
Thanks

If the rear end is still installed, I have two stands under the rear axle out by the springs and two stands under the front frame rails, just before they raise up to the fender apron. Plenty safe to get in

I typically put the rear stands where James does and the front stands under the Lower control arm or anywhere on the frame, from the front cross bar to the body. The key is to use quality jackstands, not the flimsy ones that only cost a few bucks so that the car doesn't wiggle around while on the stands. You also want to go as wide as possible with your jackstand placementin the cars' footprint so the car is stable.

I usually have my jack stands under the subframe connectors since they are solid, but besides that I will use them under the differential and as far forward on the frame rails as possible.
I usually have my floor jack still under the car but not supporting any weight. That way, should the car come down, the jack should atleast hold it for long enough for me to get the hell out.

When my Dad gave me my car it came with rolled steel jack stands from the 70's. They went to the dump fast. I got 4 brand new heavy duty stands each rated about twice the total weight of my whole car.
I also use the rear differential and the front frame rails. The bar under the oil pan will not support the weight.

The bar under the oil pan WILL support the weight, assuming you are talking about the cross member and not the centerlink of the steering. That's what I use all the time to jack the front of the car up..
