Default 20" to 24" Radiator Upgrade?

Completely rebuilt 289-4v Automatic(for now)...I don't want to run an old used up radiator in my brand new motor...I was wondering.....

Would it be smart to upgrade from a 20" to a 24" radiator...and if it would be...how ugly will it end up looking or will it bolt right in?

Tell me if I am wrong, when you rebuild a `67 Coupe (with 289-4v and in-dash factory a/c) from the ground up...ugly isn't what your looking to end up with...myself I am looking for one pretty a** muscle car.

Thanks for any help.

Do a nice fit and finish and it will look good. Mines is I thing 40"wide had to cut the support and add some things still working on the fit and finish.

If it doesn't bolt right in, it wouldn't be hard to make some brackets yourself. I would go with an aluminum rad since your replacing anyway.

Thanks, Not really able to make anything with any metal, steel probably, not aluminum.

I am just looking to see if it would be difficult to swap out a 20" for a 24"....or would it be a waste of time.

Thanks again, nice pics.

theres nothing to really make. You do need to cut the rased portion of the core support.this does 2 things, moves the radiator away from the engine about 2 inches for clearance and also open the area for air flow so more air will hit the core. I bought a Summit brand chevy radaitor and had a shop weld 4 brackets to it and that was about the hardest part. You also need to relocate the battery and make new hoses.

I would have thought it would bolt right in, after you got the 3 saddle brackets? My 68 289 w/ac came with a 24" rad from the factory. if he has the bolted in side plates in his rad support (to keep air from going around the radiator core) seems to me it should be a bolt in. Isn't the small block 24" identical size wise to the big block rad? I thought the only real difference was the lower outlet location. [sm=insomnia.gif]

Anyways,I have been wrong many times before and will be many times again.

The 67+ core support is the difference, thats what lets you put a wider radiator. Its a common swap to put a 67 core support in a 65/66
