Default Gear swap!

My 68 coupe 289 daily driver has the stock gears in it and i like where the rpms are at on the freeway and my gas mileage. how hard would it be to swap some lower geasrs to play with once in a while then swap back? i dont really have the money for it now, but i was just curious about the concept, has anyone done something similar?

Buy another pumpkin (3rd member) with the gears you want to play with. You can swap them in and out in a couple of hours, including beer breaks. Kinda expensive, but once you have it, you can swap for the price of gear oil and a new gasket.

Taller tires are like changing the gears. going from a stock size tire 14" or 15" to something that will fill the fender will give you less gears.
Thats why the 4x4 guys put on those super swamper mud tire and the 373 gears now feel like a 300. Helped a guy switch his to a 456 because of that.
Easier to pick up a set of wheels and tires than swap gears on a whim.
