Help! Solenoid and Starter Wiring

RE: Help! Solenoid and Starter Wiring
Yeah the continuity test is really just an ohmmeter, its usually used to check that diodes are correctly biased, but it can also be used to detect if components are connected. The multimeter has a volt and ammeter, but those are largely useless with a dead battery. Right now I'm just jumping the battery in the hopes that I can get the car running and just drive it around for a while. The car has had a few starting issues in the past, but the starter always cranked. This situation only started when I was replacing the valve covers and accidenally swapped the wires to the coil and the ignition switch, now just clicking from the solenoid. All thelights still work in the car when it's being jumped.

RE: Help! Solenoid and Starter Wiring
Theproblem is that I just put a new battery in the car less than a month ago, so something in the electrical system bled the battery. When it first started doing this, after I had accidentally swapped the coil and ignition leads, I tried to jump it, the solenoid clicked but the starter didn't crank andthen smoke started coming out of the cable from the battery to solenoid. I tested the cable and it tested OK.
