Slow 2.3 turbo? Tell that to this guy. He's the 4 cylinder class winner at Hot Rod magazine's Drag Week. Car makes 1000hp and gets 25mpg. It has run as quick as 8.90 @ 156.

Thanks, I missed that one! Too funny. You have to get up early and practice to say something that far off the mark- I drove an SC for 5 years.

Find the "turbo" in this picture:

I borrowed an SVO a couple months ago, been a long time since I drove one. I have to go on the expressway for part of my daily drive, and that sucker went up the ramp and into traffic like it was shot out of a cannon.

Yeh, crap, I had to leave for work in the middle of reading about the "Supercoupe" turbo. Couldn't wait to get home and finish reading it. Heres some more info on the 2.3's that I found interesting. Oh yeh, one was tuned about three months ago and made 430 RWHP, the owner stated he averaged 28 MPG. This will become a "BIG" issue in the future.

Okay....

So after searching Craigslist for over a year and a half for 'the right one'....I always came up empty handed.

My search was always the same thing: 1987 or 1988 Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe. There were always variations of the spellings, spaces in Thunder Bird...spaces on Turbo Coupe....blah, blah, blah....

They were either Automatics, or GONE. Or worse yet, they were parted out, and the engine/trans/ECM were the first things snagged and they were already GONE....go figure!..

This last summer I e-mailed a guy that had an 1987 TurboCoupe w/5 spd....he was asking $850. He said the last time it was driven, he was on the highway and there was a 'loss of power'. He was able to drive it home. But it didn't have the power it did before. So he parked it.

I didn't have the money to buy it AND pay for the gas & trailer....it was a bit far out of the way....

I saw the same ad on Craigslist a couple weeks ago...with a price drop to $785 (kind of a random number, if you ask me). So I called him again, and he mentions the price of $750. I make an appointment to go and look at it....I bring a truck and trailer, just in case...

I look at the car....the drivers door won't open, the truck lock is missing, and therefor a punched decklid is all you find there....but everything else is there. It has 114k on it, the seats are good (VERY good)......I need some time to get it running, but I have a donor car for my daughters Mustang!!!! I offered $650, he countered with $750. I said $700, he countered with $725. He said the motor and trans alone were worth that alone. I said that MAY be true, but the motor is one 'unknown'....I stood at $700.

He took it.

So now I have a donor vehicle for my daughters Mustang!!!

My guess is the engine is not hurt. I would look for something simple first before getting worried about the engine being broke. I think you have got your money's worth, you can use the 8.8, fuel pump (course a walbro 255 would be nice) VAM and the driveline. Its nice to have it all together. Also depending on the front suspension, the front disc can probably be harvested (don't forget the proportioning valve) and several other brackets. I'm guessing the dual fans will fit a 67 almost perfacto. Oh yeh, these cars are disappearing and are becoming harder to locate.

I forgot about the FMIC, all indications are its the way to go. I dorve the Fox two days ago and it pulled pretty good. THe boost had to build first, but once it did it took off. Heres how it looks in the Fox.

Loss of power on a boosted car ? Look for a leak. Cracker silicon, blown of tube, etc.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I have had a 2.3T before, and I melted the vacuum line on the wastegate diaphram...caused all sorts of issues...

So I'm not too worried about it...

I'm just glad I found a COMPLETE car this time!..

I tried to start it a few weeks ago, no luck...

I got the drivers door to open though!...someone had half of the claw partially closed when they closed the door...causing it to jam pretty good.

I was getting a clicking at the relay and at the solenoid. But it wasn't turning over.

So tonight (in the rain) I dropped the starter, took it apart, sanded the contacts, checked the brushes and put it back together.

I reinstalled it, put some fresh 92 gas in there, and fired it up....

I drove it around the block a couple times. It's leaking some oil, so I have to find the source of that when I pull the motor.

IT RUNS!!

It appears to be leaking from under the lower intake manifold....there is an oil line that is dripping oil...I can't really see that well in there, there's not alot of room to see anything in there...
