FMX Rebuild Help
I've got the original FMX in my 70 Mach that I would like to rebuild before I put up for sale. Has some leaky seals and and hesitates before I put in drive when car is cold and outside temp below 50 degrees (go figure). I'm pretty sure it has never been rebuilt before. I've swapped trannies but have never really took one apart other than changing fluid or filter. Does any body have a good reference they can point me to. I'd like to see if its something I should try myself or just pull it and take in somewhere. Appreciate any help. thanks

Jay at Broader Performance is THE FMX wizard, he can help you rebuild your own, or can rebuild it for you if you are able to get it to him in Weatherford Texas. Jay built mine up, he likes to talk, so if you call make sure you have some time to talk, and know what you want.

Those FMX's are heavy, but they are also nearly bullet proof. i had mine rebuilt about a year ago simply at a local transmission shop, I can't remember exactly how much it was but I think it was around $600 for a full rebuild, maybe more? I'm not sure. Some body shops won't be able to rebuild it though, apparently the FMX requires a couple special tools that a lot of shops don't have. I guess I got lucky with my shop
so I say just find a shop locally and pay them to rebuild it, I can only imagine how tricky one would be to build by myself. Also, at my place they hot tanked the case and the parts to get them all nice a clean, you can't do that yourself. It will truly look brand new once all that 40 year old dirt and grime is off of it.

Make sure you get it done by a shop that has been around awhile. There are different parts and needs for a FMX. Also there are several rebuild kits out there that are better than original. If you are in texas I can send you to a good shop but elsewhere I have no idea.
