65 Interior door question
Hi Everyone,
Is there an arm rest on the doors for the 65 coupe? Mine has the door handle to open the door and the window crank. The last owner put new door panels on but there are no arm rests. The reason I am even concerned is when I get in the car and go to close it, I have to grab the door lever on the inside to pull it closed. And I'm scared over time it will have an affect on that lever and all.
I saw on cjponyparts there are arm rests for sale. Do I need to put holes in the door panel for this? Is there other support for the arm rests other than just the door panels? Just curious what they screw into on the doors.
Thanks!
Warren

They are supposed to have armrest. I'm not sure but I thought the holes were already cut on the panels I pun on my 68. If you take the panel off and look at the back the holes may already be cut but just not through the vinyl. I don't know how original you intend to keep the car but I prefer the looks of the pony door panels with the arm rests molded on.

The arm rest is held in place with two long screws which angle upward through the base into two screw holes already in the door metal. There should be marks on the back of the door panel for positioning. Stick an xacto knife or other very sharp object through the door panel punch outs from behind to mark the front of the panel and then actually create the holes from the front of the panel. That keeps the vinyl from separating from the cardboard backing.
