Default cowl cover-what will i lose?

since i have ac i'm not worried about the fresh air vents but will the heat work correctly? $29.00 is not a bad repair cost for a driver.

any comments from anyone who has one of these?

I have seen some folks weld in a piece of sheet metal to permanently close the cowl off.

However, I just keep my plastic deal in the trunk unless I am washing the car or get caught by surprise in a rain storm. I do know people though that drive with the plastic covers on pretty much full time.

I think the heater needs the fresh air from the cowl. You'd have to remove it to use the heater but otherwise it'll keep your feet dry. Just hope you don't need heat in the rain....

Yes, it will disable your vents and heater.

Do the 60's not have another way for the heater box to pull in air from inside the car? My 72 does and the heat and air work just fine. I sealed my cowl temporarily and have that vent to pull from the inside open at all times by holding it up.

The holes in the ends of the cowl that are covered by the fenders should allow enough air flow so the heater still works and if not you could just remove the seal from the heater box to the cowl so it recirculates the inside air.

If the cowl is plugged and the fresh air vents opened, the heater will pull air from inside the car backwards through the fresh air vents. Just like recirculated air in newer cars.

+1

If there was somewhere else in the cowl for fresh air to get sucked in, it would instead be blown out by the high pressure air coming in the cowl during normal operation. The whole idea is to make the cowl a high pressure area so that air gets sucked into the cabin as the vehicle moves. The only other places it could come from are the cowl drains, which are too small to be of any real use.
