Seriously, if you crunch up some newspaper and get creative with some 2" blue tape, you can spray paint your block with some spurts from a rattle can and do something about that patina that looks like rust to those of us still voting, lol.

Well, if anyone is looking, I pretty clearly already had lost ROTM to 4reboy, who actually is the one who deserved to win anyway.
The engine is not dirty. It was degreased a week ago. That is age, stain and rust. I am working on it here and there. The valve covers and air cleaner have been stripped primed and repainted original black and gold and a new 289 emblem attached. I replaced the plug wires and just this week got the new clips which will secure the wires to the valve covers, I used Bar Keepers Friend to scrub 45 years of crap off the power steering fluid reservoir. You can see it in the picture. That took a while.
The firewall has been cleaned, as has the battery compartment area. The water pump is new, as is the radiator, so I don't have to do anything with them. Next up are new battery cables.
And I shall plug that wire into the oil sending unit.

You should. I'm old and I'll probably die soon and I'll have to carry the memory of this abuse to my grave. And did I mention I'm an orphan? Yeah, I know, I tried that line of crap to win ROTM too and look what it got me. Well, time to go put my instument cluster back in and see if the new speedometer works.
