You replace the rear leaf springs when the car is dragging A@ss and you do not use air shocks at all! A nice set of KYB's will suffice.

Quite right! Proper springs will set the correct height, and using air or coil-over shocks will screw up your handling and ride, and eventually ruin the crossmember, which will cost serious money to repair or replace.

My answer was going to be any time you use air shocks you know it is time to change the rear leafs

You will be much happier with the ride once you get new leaf springs and replace the shocks. My car had air shocks and sagging leafs when I bought it. I did the 5-leaf Mid-Eyes and KYB gas shocks (cost < $300, and well worth it).

+1....ditch the airshocks, my car had high-jackers on it when I got it from my uncle...I'll tell you they were the first thing to come off.

Strangely not SPECIFICALLY mentioned, air shocks on the rear of a classic Mustang will punch holes in your floor where the shocks attach. The floor has insufficient strength to support the weight of the car.

Yeah the air shocks belong in the trash.

The springs need to be replaced when they are sagging real bad.

I personally think the 5 leaf springs are overkill for most cars. I have GT springs on mine and it is plenty stiff.

I just finished the suspension sytem upgrade on my 68 coupe with Grab-A-Trak GT springs. The GT 4-leaf and coil springs will give you a nice ride over stock but firm. Here are the pics: http://www.freedomcruisin.com/Hollyw..._Projects.html

Should I do the GT set or a 5 leaf set? already did the front springs, or should I save up and just do a 4 link setup?
