5th pic down from the top shows the wire on top of the battery going down towards the front of the engine. He's asleep so I can't ask him right now.

I have to agree, pics are a little close. Not familiar with that harness but, looks like maybe for lights. The line from the trans probably hooks up under that air cleaner. May need to remove that to find it. Or follow it from trans.

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait till I get there in a couple weeks to figure it out. After whatever happened while it was running, the car now will not start at all. Won't even do anything when turning the key. No power or lights or anything.

Grr! Told him not to touch it till I got there to check it out!

the plug with the harness is a trailer plug. i would bet that this car at some point was pulled behind an rv. they probably used this plug to plug into the pulling vehicle so the stang would have working lights when being towed.

Sounds to me like you will be replacing the head gasket.
The bucking sounds like its trying to burn fuel thats got water in it, would also account for the white smoke.

Get him to check his radiator level, see if the water level is down or if theres any grey sludge in the water.

Do I have to drain fluids for the head gasket or just do an oil change?

Is it as easy as pulling off the head and replacing it or should I just get a gasket set?

Or he has an alternator harness from NPD. That is what they use to connect the alternator wires to the rest of underdash harness. I think the OEM harness had the same connector but they are often chopped up over the years for various reasons.

You mean unplug the rubber line at the intake, or disconnect at the modulator?
