I have been running the engine oil stop leak from this company in my high milage 95 F150 5.0 for years. When the rear main seal started leaking a little around 100k miles I started running this every other oil change and the oil leak was basially gone until 150k miles. The truck now has 270k miles and leaks about a half quart between oil changes and I run the stop leak almost every oil change now.

Their radiator stop leak works well also.

All stop leak or high mileage oil does is swell the gaskets so they help slow the leak. I have always come down on the side of fix the problem and leave the STP and Bars-Stop-Leak on the shelf. You have to ask yourself what else is it doing to my motor, oil passages, bearings, and radiator?

I agree, and I sell the stuff at Napa. I don't like any fix-in-a-bottle products. The oil isn't designed to be used with them, and they have all sorts of crap in them that changes the properties of the oil. Oil on which thousands of dollars have been spent in R&D to design and refine. No sir, not for me.

I would only consider running it in a really high milage engine. I honestly didn't think the 5.0 in my F150 would still be running as good as it does at over 270k miles. It runs as good as ever. I would definitely not run the "fix in a bottle" stuff in a low mileage engine. I just didn't want to tear down the F150's engine to fix the leak and then end up having to tear it all down again to rebuilt it soon after. In retrospect, I should have just replaced all the oil related gaskets back then. I know that some of the leak stop products have particles in them, but the Bars stuff is just liquid. Urban Cowboy is right these products do swell the gaskets.

If my 65 developed an oil leak right now, I would not use this stuff. I would replace the seal.
