I'm a born and bred Ford guy and would never consider putting a Chevy motor in any Ford. When it comes to vintage factory muscle, Chevy had it all over Ford (IMO). IIRC, the highest HP 351W available produced 290 HP and the Boss 351C produced 330 HP. In comparison, the 70 Chevy LT1 350 produced 370 HP. Even the milder L46 version produced 350 HP. Some of the big blocks were even nastier. And all with factory parts.....

Thanks 69FEcoupe. I have been a Chevy guy my whole life(17 years). I just started getting into mustangs about a year ago. I know my uncle who likes to buy old Ford coupes like 39 and 40's puts nothing but chevy engines in his cars.

I don`t have anything against Chevy engines, actually, our `32 Ford Roadster has a fuel injected 350 in it. But this was build from ground up and only the framerails are pure original.
But to put a Chevy in a Mustang? That would feel just as natural as sleeping with your best friends wife!!

If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose, I would actually prefer to put a Skyline engine in my car. That is such a radical mod that I would actually be impressed with the builder, rather than getting a puking sensation if I saw a Bowtie in there.

LOL Agreed... I am not disagreeing with the chevy's power. You can make a lot more power cheaper with a chevy 350 than a Ford 351.

OK! Food fight! I need to see the proof that a 350 Chebby engine can be modded to produce more Horsepower than a 351. So, you guys who are making those statements need to show me. Here is a lowly 351W that produces at least 425HP. There are most likely ones out there that can produce 500 or more. Big block Ford engines can be modded to get into the double digits of over 1000 HP. Yes, it is heavily modded, that is what we are talking about. Not stock engines. Add nitrous to it, and it's "gone in 60 seconds." Whenever you move up to this class of engine price is not an issue, as you wouldn't even consider it unless you had the moolah.

I have built a chevy with just porting heads and blancing to make over 450HP. And that was without serious cash. My car makes a little over 400 HP, but I have 2K in the heads not to mention rods etc for my 351.

yes, You can buy a 350 with Edelbrock heads, to have 450 Hp. Thats with hardly any mods, and it's still cheaper. Now Im talking about NOT BORING the engine out. No strokers or anything.

No food fights! Just to clarify, the numbers I posted were for stock, available to anybody, factory offerings. There is no doubt that with enough investment, you can build a 351W with just as much HP as a 350 Chevy. Just look to NASCAR for the proof. However, you'd be hard pressed to build a 351W with 370HP without spending some serious money on heads. Chevy did it with all factory stuff and the LT1 had 4 bolt mains as a bonus.
