I recently sent my car to the shop to have the transmission rebuilt and I get to pick it up tomorrow morning. They said the main problem was the torque converter went out but since they had it apart I also bought a B&M shift kit and had it installed.

Main question is how many miles should I put on it before it is broke in enough to drive it harder? I read on some places about 500 miles of easy driving and not launching it or anything.

Thats a good question....I heard they were pretty much ready to go straight away with 50 miles or less of easy driving.

I bet each shop will tell you something different...500 is quite a bit...who knows.

Ya I was just curious because I have searched google and got that it was good to go almost right away. But I have read 500 alot of places too. And a few places said to drain the transmission fluid and put in new fluid after about 3 months so it gets all the machined shavings and stuff out. And then I asked a friend and he said around 2000 and I know thats know where close so I just ignored him.

The C4 is a tough little guy and found its way into many different vehicles including modern trucks....No one who buys a new vehicle is going to wait 500 miles before they "drive" it

Just take it easy for a few days let it go through at least 3 warm up and cool down cycles...and at least 30 miles of city driving and 10 miles of freeway...you'll be set after that no doubt.

Alright thanks I was just wanting to make sure before I test out what the shift kit can do. I have heard it will be a pretty noticable difference.

The only automatics you have to baby after a rebuild are the electronically shifted ones and then it's only for the first 8 shifts so that the computer can relearn. I'm the head technician for 4 transmission shops and a certified transmission tech so I know this for a fact.
