Default Dilema

Okay... I have two Stangs. I have an '04 3.9l and a '67 Coupe. The Coupe was left to me by my grandfather who passed away when I was six. He bought it brand new in California and it was a very nice gold color. Now it's more of a brown with bondo all over it, the tires are dry-rotted, the engine is completely shot, it needs a new tranny (it's a 4 speed manual). I'm 22 now and I was just recently able to go back to my hometown a pick her up. The memories of that thing are definitely still there. That's the car that I learned how to drive a stick on. It's kind of crazy actually. That car did not break down until my grandfather passed away. It's almost like it died when he did, at least that's how I saw it as a kid. I got enough juice out of her when I was 15, just long enough to learn to use a clutch.... then the tranny broke. It had been sitting in the garage until now. I just picked her up last week, and I've decided that now is the time to make my grandfather's dream a reality. He always wanted it to be Metallic Silver with black racing stripes. He wanted to throw a V8 in there, white letter tires, chrome wheels, spoiler, the works. My Dad partially rebuilt the motor before my grandfather died...

Anyway, it's a classic car, but it has more sentimental value than anything. Sorry for my rambling but I'm really lost right now. Where the hell do I find parts for that thing? Can anyone recommend a good website for the classic Stangs? It has to be done right. He loved that car so much that it is engraved on his tombstone.

As far as engines, I'm thinking of a 383 Stroker. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

What size engine is in it now??? If it's a 289/302, you could stroke it to a 331, and have plenty of power but not a race car. What size rear gears does it have??? If they are the 279's, switch them to 350's and get a T5 or Tremec tranny to replace that one. The silver and black is cool, they're is a 67 painted like that with a 351 in town. Changing spark plugs can be a PITA on it he says, but the power is worth it. Just a couple of ideas, I'm sure more people will have a recomendation or comment.
