Default 67 Mustang T5 swap?...What can i expect

Hey guys...i was originally going to splurge and put a 700r4 4 speed overdrive tranny in my 67, but recently i have been considering a T-5 swap instead...Could anyone let me know what type of money i can expect to throw into this swap and/or what parts i will need and/or where i can get all of these parts for as inexpensive as possible that will still hold 500 hp?...thanks

500 hp, with similar torque, will definitely do vile things to a T5.

Would i be better off sticking to my original plan of using a 700r4 4speed automatic with overdrive?...

You would have to build the T5 up to hold that much HP. Stock they are only rated to around 300 HP.

The strongest T5 is rated at 450 HP and that didn't come out until the early 90's.

if you want a strong T5 talk to moderndriveline.com
but if you want to hold up to 500 or 600hp, you're better off with a Tremec TKO. never heard of "700r4 4" before though. no idea if that's any good

Hard to believe...... I thought I was the only wacko that was thinking about the 700R4 too. I currently have a T-5 in it and HAVE NOT jumped on it for fear of damage. My son said we should put in an automatic and I don't like the fact the AOD doesn't have 4 detents. The 700 held up to a test we did at B&M putting it behind a modified 454 in a crewcab dually towing a 35 foot 5th wheel and it held up. We tested it for over a year and driving across country. Had to do a few mods cuz of breaking along the way but got it to hold up. I love the stick but would really like to jump on it!!!!!

i'd say as soon as you floor it in 4th just after shifting from third it will collapse at the first time you try that (unless the car has not much torque and you get to that HP rating at 10000 rpms ...)

anyway, T5 behind 350+ torque is not a good idea

The t5 is a feeble transmission in general. Even behind 6cyl motors. The 700r4 is a good idea and so is a 4 spd toploader. If your really looking to go 5spd manual id say tremec or richmond, yeah they arnt cheap but you'd put one of those in and really not have to worry about the trans anymore. A t5 is setting yourself up for more work and money down the road. Just my opinion
