Default '69 Mach 1 upgrade

Hi,

I have factory power discs on my car, but was thinking of upgrading them. Anyone know of a kit that has all the parts to upgrade the fronts, replace the rears with discs.

Seen a few kits, but they seem to be Drum-to-Disc.

Thanks

Cobra Brakes (I think this is the name of the company)
SSBC
Baer
and I cannot remember the rest this early in the morning but I'll check. I'm sure this list will get bigger as the day goes on.

If you plan to stay with stock 15"? rims that's goi ng to limit your selection a lot. Not saying you should change to 17" wheels but that's what most of the aftermarket kits are designed to fit.

You can get slotted and drilled disks for the front of the same size and add better pads. Rear disks would suit a competition car IMHO.

Worse, the stock wheels were 14", even more limiting.

^yup my non-stock wheels that came with my car are still 14", which sucks for brake upgrades as well as tire selection

Meh, stock brakes work just fine. Why do you need to upgrade?

Stay away from drilled rotors. Heat cycles (from everyday driving) will cause them to crack in between the holes. I'm not even a huge fan of slotted rotors, simply because they cheese grate the pads and don't offer much for a street-driven car. Good rotors and maybe some good semi-metallic pads are all most people need. At the end of the day, you're still limited by traction.

If you have factory power disc brakes, I would keep it that way.

i agree with starfury. Your factory disc brakes should be fine for a daily driver.

I am going for 15" Magnum 500s. I was going to change the brakes, as my car has heavily corrosion (the previous owner had left it in outside in salt air), and needs full rebuilt, so I thought of upgrading, as I am more or less putting in new stuff - new booster, master cylinder, full lines, hoses, pistons, wheel cylinders, all hardware and caliper/shoes. It won't be a daily driver. But I guess you are suggesting I just restore the old brakes, specially as it won't see daily use or racing. I think going for Starfury's suggestion would make sense, of just getting upgraded pads.
