pitman arm/idler arm
hi all,
we're helping someone to convert a 67mustang from manual steering to power steering ... wasn't my idea :-)
owner brought all parts from states but some were missing. My buddy put it all in and pitman arm was missing.
So he ordered on for a 67, but the hole for the sector shaft is too small.
I checked on flaming river and they only have 2 boxes for the 67:
FR1498-1: 1967-70 Mustang Steering Box 1"1/8 Sector; Long Shaft; 16:1 / ea
FR1498: 1967-70 Mustang Steering Box 1-1/8" Sector 16:1; Short Shaft; 16:1 / ea
from this I guess the sector shaft on the flaming river must be 1-1/8" and the pitman arm is only 1"
before we order another one. will any powersteering pitman arm for a 67 mustang with a 1-1/8" sector fit? or are there more differences?
I'm a bit confused about long sector, short sector. no idea what that means or why one would be short/long ?!
any help appreciated

'67 was a screwy year. I think there are something like 5 or 6 different boxes used that year. Some of them are NOT 1-1/8" sector shafts.
The long/short shaft refers to the input. Early cars had long-shaft inputs that go all the way to the top of the column. Later cars had a short input hooked up to a rag joint.
Check out Glazier's for proper application. They're just about the only place I can get my pitman arm.

ahh brilliant. that explains it. yes. the box that is currently in there (the new one) is the flaming river (one of the models posted above). So I'll just go and hunt for a pitman arm that will match the box (contact flaming river for suggestion)
