Correct me if i'm wrong, but they don't seem to have regular Dynamat anymore, only Dynamat extreme..which is pretty expensive.

Has anyone tried Fatmat Rattletrap? It's 80 mils and half the price.

Here's my current plan:

Prime and paint
Fatmat Rattletrap
Peel and seal on top

Here's what we use and it's found on a roll in the "Lowe's" flooring dept. As far as I know they still have it. Its gonna cost you a whopping $30 or $40 to do the whole car and I can tell you it works "VERY WELL". I really need to go into the "sound deadener" business (LMAO).

Was that a self adhesive flooring material? Remember what it was called?

Reason I brought up RAAM is because it's composed of Butyl instead of Asphalt, which people complain the asphalt backing tends to melt and get gooey after a few years, thus reducing the overall effect of the sound damping.

So we basically lay this under the carpet and in the trunk to reduce noise inside the cab?

I guess I am missing the point of using this stuff. Could someone give me some guidance/information?

Everybody's got their own method. Here's what we did on my son's truck. For the Lizard Skin alternative, we went with the Microspheres mixed with some leftover latex house paint. Total cost to do this truck...$10 worth of microspheres and 1/2 gallon of old paint.

Then, we covered it with eDead Sound deadener from Elemental Designs. We probably spent less than 50 bucks for the whole deal.

So from what i've been researching, the idea is to get the sound deadener (some form of rubber damper) on the metal. This helps reduce sound transmission and if done correctly, can highly increase the acoustic quality of your ride. On top of the sound deadener is the insulation. Typically they're foil backed to some extent for heat deflection and retardation.

Regarding the sound deadener, audio experts will advocate anything with a butyl backing instead of asphalt. Main reasons seem to be quality and longevity.
