If the motor is stock or near stock I would go with the HiPo manifolds.

I agree. I switched from headers to HP manifolds on my ported 289HP, and I have never had a moments' regret.

I've been debating the same question and haven't come up with the answer yet so I am still running stock manifolds on a 302 with ported GT40's, Holley 600, mild cam, etc, etc...

What about Shorty headers? Are those any good?

Shorty headers are good for stock or mild motors. I have mid length JBA headers on mine. They are longer than shorties.
