Talking Shifter linkage for AOD

Hello all you techies-

When using the stock floor shifter and a AOD transmission on a 1966 Coupe do I have to buy the AOD shifter linkage or can I modify one? I know you have to buy the kick down cable but can i save $110.00 and modify an existing one?

Thoughts Please

Here's a thread from another forum with pics and explanation of how long the rod needs to be and the 'Z' shape of it to line up.

There is no kickdown cable but a TV cable you can get from Lokar:

Adjustment is crucial as you can burn up the trans in <1mi. if wrong.
