first drive with new motor...BOOM!

Collapsed lifter...pushed rocker stud up and rocker was hitting valve cover. I guess the lesson here is to not reuse your used lifters on a new motor? Buying a new set tomorrow. So glad I dont have to pull the motor out. Need to pull radiator out in order to get to my crank bolt to set lash on all the lifter again. new intake gaskets, and then we should be back on the road.

New lifters are always a must for me. I hope that does the trick... Also check the oil. I had a rocker stud back out and leak coolant into the crank case, destroying my cam bearings. This right after the heads were rebuilt! Needless to say, I demanded screw in studs on the next set.

Why pull the radiator? If you pull the coil wire, you can use a screwdriver to jump the B+ and S terminals on the starter solenoid (or use a remote starter to jump them) to turn the motor over until that cylinder is on the compression stroke. This will place both lifters on the base of the cam lobe for proper adjustment.

Dude, I know that can be a soul crushing experience so you have my condolences as far as that goes, but damn; Why in the world did you reuse old lifters on a new motor? You're in to it for hundreds of dollars at least already so why scrimp now?
Hopefully you got away with one and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
