a lot of work and not worth it...youd be better of going to a junkyard and getting an explorer 5.0 from a 1996-1997.5 model year and dropping it in your car if you need an engine..

personally id buy a explorer 5.0 from a 96-97.5 model with the gt40 heads...sell the intake and throttle body to a 5.0 mustang guy and get some of your monies back and get a trans

What is your budget?
I put a 347 short block (needed a rear main seal) and World products heads (picked them up at my local machine shop as an abandoned project for the cost of machine work and valves) in my 70 for $1100.
Shop around there are deals to be had.
I rebuilt the C4 and added a torque converter (kit with shift improvement stuff was $94, TQ Conv was $199 (Before PAW stopped selling ford parts) and labor was $330 for a bench rebuild) $623
I did the Explorer rear end swap without cutting down the other side. (I got transferred overseas. Easier to store under the car than in the garage.) Built in rear discs and parking brake.... Cost of rear end, spring perches and welding $414.
Suspension kits for early mustangs are cheap. Upgrade the tie rod sleeves and you can use your current ones as a guide. When you put the new tie rods in your toe should be close.
tape the shim packs on the upper control arms together and put them back in with the new upper arms(or the old ones if you replace the bushings and ball joints) that way the caster and camber should be close enough to get to the alignment shop for a proper alignment.
The new rear springs can go in when you do the rear end swap. Do a search on here for a $200 front disc brake swap. the only part you may have to source out is the spacers. I made my own. If you get me the dimensions you need I'll make you some for a 6 pack of Sam Adams and the shipping....
Basically there is no reason to defile your pony with a V6....
you can do it, but why?
