Ball joint puller.

http://www.sears.com/kd-tools-univer...1&blockType=G1

Just an example, but I've found that type to be one of the easier ones to use. Put it on, tighten it up a bit, then get it a few good whacks with a mallet, or some hard taps with a hammer and they tend to pop right out.

Don't even waste time with a pickle fork, they're useless, tear **** and and are more likely to get you hurt than get the job done.

Yep, pickle forks are stupid.

Back in the day workin' at the junkyard I ran across some tough ones.
I had a nice sized mallet that I would use as a back-up behind the eye and then whack it on the other side with another hammer.
Didn't really take a huge hammer to make it pop off when using a back-up.

This always worked for me.

...if it didn't, I got out the Victor Wrench.

Ive always used a pickle fork , while prying down with one hand use a ball peen hammer and peen the outside of the center link . This momentarily distorts the center of the beveled hole that the idler arm goes through. It always works for me.

You may have to hit it a few times and it helps to have an extra person .

The seperator worked thanks

Now how do I get the new idler arm end back into the center link. I feel like if I keep tightening the crown bolt (until it pops in) I might break something?

Shove it into place, and then torque the castle nut to spec.
