Upper Control Arm Lube

Upper Control Arm Lube
I've been using a hand-held grease gun all my life (I'm 65) but now I can't get the upper control arms in my 68 Stang to accept grease. I've removed and inspected all 4 zerks and they are functioning properly and are not clogged up. Any ideas?

Is the gun rock hard when you try to add grease? If the joint is saturated, then there will be too much pressure for the gun to pump against. Especially with newer ball joints that seal a lot better.

The gun is rock hard, and the grease squirts out around the zerks instead of going in. I had this done at the local Firestone last year and the guy said he had problems getting grease to go into these zerks but finally did get some to go in (supposedly). Control arms aren't new - they have some age on them.

I've had the same issue, with a newer gun that seals on the zerk really well, and especially newer arms/joints. There's so much pressure inside the fluid cavity in the joint you can't push any more in. If that happens it means the joint is full of grease, and hasn't lost much over time.

[QUOTE=unit91;8423727]The gun is rock hard, and the grease squirts out around the zerks instead of going in.[/quoote]a good gun will leak little to nothing around the fitting when it is full.
as ,entioned, your arms are likely full. stop greasing them, lol.
