Default help with cam choice

I DO NOT PLAN TO BUY A CAM... I am assembling a 289 from extra stuff I have laying around the garage to slap into a project I have.

I have a lunati 61003 from a engine I have with a bad rod bearing. it is used but lightly and the heads I have are assembled with the springs to match. https://www.google.com/search?q=luna...oe=&gws_rd=ssl

I also have a brand new comp cams here http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cc...view/make/ford

I am assembling the 289 for a street car just to do burn outs and screw around with. not a high performance street machine. but I want it as punchy as possible.

the current gears are 3.0 open rear end and it will have a c4 auto. I think the compression is about 9.4:1

please let me know the diff. between the two and what to expect. I am using the same heads either way. they are 289 heads with new valves, the lunati springs and roller rockers.

also, what if I use the comp cams and install 1.7 rockers rather than 1.6?

The Lunati might not be too great with a 3.00 gear and average compression. The Comp cam will be a bit torquier down low, should work fine with 1.7 rockers also.

yeah the lunati will absolutely be a slug with 3.00 gears, especially off the line without around a 2400 rpm stall converter.

the comp is far better but unless your heads are ported, i would not put 1.7 rockers but 1.65 is ok.

eddy standard non rpm intake.

600 cfm vacuum carb . . an annular booster type is best for your app . . summit has a box type holley one for $220.00

it will need headers.

it will do a little burn out if you do not have a posi.

yes the heads are ported, they also have a heavy double spring in them.

I am using a stock style convertor

I have a holly 600 cfm that I already own

I ordered the summit 1.6 roller rockers

a new set of lunati lifters

a billet dizzy with built in coil

and am going on now to pick out a manifold.

It will totally do burn outs. It has a 170cu in 6 banger in there now and it breaks loose. ill send pics of the smoke....

thats a decent intake, however it actually [provides] less power than an eddy performer but in a low ho app like this its not a big deal

i like econolines . . i had a 64 6 cyl 3 on the tree, fully carpeted of course . . i used to haul my mx bike to the races in it also a chick or two if i was lucky...
