Which carb is the right one
#11
Unfortunately the 1100 design is not very good and the layout of the intake manifold and cylinder head results in inadequate fuel distribution. When combined with varnish deposits, crappy fuel these cars were not designed for, problems with the vaccuum system or spark control valve (if equipped), performance issues such as hesitation and stumbling often result.
I would have a closer look at the harmonic balancer to make sure you are using the right timing mark. If you are off 180 degrees as described (7 o'clock vs 1 o'clock), you may not have the right mark. Sometimes you have to get up close with a flashlight to make sure you have it right. I typically highlight this with a white grease pencil so it shows up under the timing light.
Although this is frustrating, solving these kinds of mysteries is part of the charm in owning an old car. Keep us posted on your progress!

try rockauto.com they do have some out of the ordinary parts. also, check local parts yards. you can usually get one used for $20 or so then buy an rebuild kit and follow directions.
ps, when rebuilding a carb, I find it helpful to soak it in chem dip for a couple days prior to rebuilding.
