Default 66 Mustang Dying

So I'm new here so go easy on me haha

I have a 1966 Mustang and it has given me hell, I love it but every now and then shes got something I need to fix.

Its a 200 Ci Inline 6 automatic 1v Carb

I've rebuilt the motor, put an ignitor in there and everything has been fine. but i decided maybe A 2V would be nice so i get the adapter and take my bros 71 carb and pop it in just see what kind of adjustments i would need to make.

Now here where things go bad I put the 1V back on and the motor would turn over but kills out immediately (cue the dramatic what have i done look) I realize well the carb must have to be rebuilt now so I have my buddy rebuild it and he does and comes back and we pop it on start car and it the motor sounds fine so we leave it.

I come back thinking my car is fine now and attempt to take my younger brother to school but it kills out half way there... and then it turned on and killed out again this happens until i give up and go home. I should add that when attempting to give the car gas the pedal was stiff then it died. but if i waited 10 mins it would turn right back on

Whats going on?

Sounds like what we used to call the old vapor lock.

If the car sat for a while...or if it has the original fuel tank it could be picking up bits of rust or other debris.

This crap in general may have managed to plug up the fuel inlet port in the carb. The fuel is restricted and can not flow freely into the float bowl. The car will run fine for a minute as it uses the fuel in the float bowl. Because incoming fuel is restricted the float bowl begins to drain as fuel is used by the engine and within a min or so the engine dies. As you crank the engine over fuel may leak back into the float past the restriction until the engine can start and the process repeats.

Check to make sure you have a fuel filter inline right before the carb. A clear plastic one is good for now.

If you think im right then you'll need to clean the carb out again by dissembling it.

I do have a fuel filter it works pretty well, it has been sitting for more than 2 weeks but i have left the car with a half tank for 3 months and she would turn on like a charm.. i shouldve never fiddled with the carb..

I had her for a little more than a year I just barely got the motor rebuilt in June but I've never had problems with the car randomly dying just small issues that need to be fixed before things get worse.

Did you change the coil when you put the Ignitor in? Sounds like, if not the carb, then the next step is a cooked coil.
