Will 5 bolt axles fit into a 4 bolt axle housing/differential? 1967
Converting my 1967 straight 6 mustang to a V8. I have a complete rear end from a different '67 V8 mustang and i'm wondering if i can save some time and labor. thanks!

No. The axles aren't really the weak point - it's the diff that you need to upgrade, which means an 8" axle housing, with axles. Build the center section before you put it in the vehicle (or have it built), then drop it in the housing before you put it in the car. It's much easier to do on a workbench than in the vehicle

6 cylinder, 4-bolt axles are 25 spline, whereas 8", 5-bolt axles are 28 spline. Six cylinder rear gear has an unsupported pinion gear which can move out of plane and tear up everything, whereas, the 8" gears have pinion support on both sides of the gear face, and the pinion can't be shifted unless way too much grunt is applied, in which case you need to step up to the 9".
