Converting to 5 lug 1968 Mustang
Hey guys I have an l6 68 Mustang and I am trying to convert to rear end to 5 lug after I have just made a disk brake conversion in the front. Right now I have a couple of potential donors: 67 falcon, 67 fairlane, and a 8.8 Explorer (still waiting on the donor to tell me the year. Would any of these donor be easier than the other for the swap? & is there a way I can just convert it myself by getting new axles, rotors, and drums?

While I haven't personally done an 8.8 explorer conversion, the simple answer to your question would be that anything that is made to the exact specs (direct bolt in) would be easier than something that is not. Therefore, the 8.8 might require some modifications, at least you would get the rear disc brakes!!

After searching the forum...... I found that there is the option of doing this very thing. (see post #3 ) Well close any way. I found that one can pull the axles and retap to a 5 lug pattern. Why this is not done a lot must be that the axles are not of the same strength. That most folks are doing a I6 to V8 up grade and the axles will not support the pressure put on them.(they end up breaking )Would this be a correct statement?
Me and my rebuild are staying with the I6. BUT I do want to change out the brakes to disc and 5 lug pattern.
