That black and yellow is the main power feed for everything. As it has a lot of current draw, any corrosion on the pins will cause it to get hot and possibly melt the connector enough so it doesn't make good contact. Also the wire on the dash side may have come out or the connector pin may have pushed out. The dash side goes to the fuse box, the light switch and the ignition switch, so if those are not working, you need to get up in there and fix that wire.

it is a lot of work, i wish it would have researched it a better first. I am also installing atomic efi, and a set of dakota digital vhx gauges at the same time. with the dakota set i didnt need half of the painless kit. i could have used a basic generic kit.
otherwise, painless is the way to go. they have good support. I have a couple small issues with their harness but not bad. Like some of the wires are different than the schematic and some of them are a little short requiring splicing

I helped a buddy of mine rewire his Jeep with a Painless setup and was impressed with it also. Every cable being labeled was a nice touch. The only problem I ran into were with the connectors but luckily we had a junk Jeep at our disposal that I was able to scarf parts off of.

Oh man, rewires are tedious but well worth it when all is said and done. Takes a little longer when the car is completely together. Good luck sir, heat shrink, wire loom and Adel clamps are your friend!
