Default 66 Stang Help

<FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>I have a 1966 Mustang 200 I-6 and was wantin to swap it fora 351 Cleveland...does anyone know if that would work or would i have to go for a smaller engine. It has a 3 speed manual but i would swap that for a 5 speed if i swapped the engine. Also, would 4.10s be the way to go for the quarter mile or 3.73s? </FONT></P>

Well I know it will fit. Any small block will drop right in. You need the 351 motor mounts of course and the correct bellhousing to hook that motor to your tranny. If you are building a straight dragster and wont be driving on the street much, go for the 4.10s. If you will be doing alot of street driving I would recommend the 3.73s or even 3.50s as the 4.10s would be a bit annoying IMO. <edited><editID>AjIsDope</editID><editDate>38008.1400462963</editDate></edited>

Get out your wallet because you are going to need TLC (Tons of Loot and Cash). 1. Suspension and brakes need to be replaced$ 2. Rear axle replaced$$$$ 3. Transmission must be changed since the 6 cyl one cannot be used $$$$ 4. Exhaust$ </P>

Dont get discouraged though Its worth it just know what you are getting into. Chevrolet makes it easier since the Camaros and Novas etc didnt use 4 lugs even on sixes.</P>

I wasnt too clear when I said suspension. If you want to keep the drums up front then your spindles are ok but if you want discs then they need to be changed or get a conversion kit, either way its expensive. 6 cyl front springs will work but wont be enough the Cleveland is kind of between a big &amp; small block so its heavier. I am also assuming the suspension is original and should be checked at least. I'm not trying to discourage you, I have owned my 67 since 79 and know from experience what needs to be done and what it costs not to mention the time involved. Since you are from FL you probably dont have a major rust problem, so extensive body work is probably not a concern. I was going to put a 390 in my car I put in a 9' rear disc brakes BB springs and heavier rear springs. This is good for the 289 too. Then the reality set in I still need a different radiator, clutch linkage, motor mounts, and exhaust grand total of about a grand more. Unfortunately the BB is on hold but the SB is still strong and can drive my car.</P>
