Default 94 GT Convertible top

I have a 94 GT Convertible with only 48K miles on it..this morning I went to put the top down and it went about 1/4 of the way down and I heard a leaking sound. As I looked closer I saw what looks like hydraulic fluid coming from the lowering strut. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix or diagnose this problem..I'd prefer to not take it into a dealership.
thx

is it coming from the actual hydraulic lift cylinder or from where the hose connects with fluid? you can buy replacement lift cylinders on ebay for ~$150, or you could also check out a junkyard/craigslist for a used one.
