1989 GT vert motor replacement DIY?
My convertible top motor went **** up on me. Button got stuck and by the time i noticed it was stuck, motor had already burned up...point in case smoke coming from below the top. I called around at top shops and the average price for part replacement and install is roughly 700 dollars....I call bull. I'll buy the motor myself and install it. Just trying to find out a) where is it and b) how to replace it. My top is stuck down till I fix this, and I have no garage so I gotta get this done. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If its anything like my 96, you should be able to get someone on both side to close it. There should be a liner behind the seats and that's where the motor should be. That's how it was on my 96 anyways. I gotta imagine that even though its a different body style that the placement is still close. Try googling a walk through on how to change out a top motor.

Is there any way I can manually put the top back up? Its stuck in the down position.... I tried lifting it up with a buddy and its not going anywhere without me tweaking the frame.

Guitarist, if you and a buddy can't lift your top (this is a verrrrrry slow process because you are physically moving the hydraulic fluid instead of the motor pumping it), the only other way is to expose the motor and remove the hydraulic hose from the side of the motor to relieve the pressure - no hydraulic pressure, no resistance on the convertible frame.
Beware though! When you do this, red hydraulic fluid will flow out all over under the back seat or trunk when you pull the convertible top up to clamp it to the header.
