I actually saw one advertised in a magazine today (Harbor Freight) for $9.95.

Can't beat the price, you are correct!

Have you compared it to a, say, beam type wrench to assess its accuracy?

Similar experience here. Bought it just to use on lug nuts (which it has worked wonderfully for), but I've used it for a ton of stuff now- even an intake manifold swap on the folk's Crown Vic. No problems so far... Although I do wonder about the accuracy, the click feels very precise (if not accurate) and the lock mechanism offers little trouble.

Forgot about this post when asking my previous question about its accuracy.

One thing to consider, though, is how long (or how many cycles) a particular torque wrench stays calibrated correctly.

Storing it correctly is, of course, important (uncompressed).

In any case, though, my use is far from daily shop oriented - so the CDI one I purchased should do me good. And I love the locking ring style -- it's a different mechanism than the Craftsman (of which I own one.)

Appreciate all the input I've been given in this informative thread, folks.
