Default Not a mustang but still a Ford.

I just bought an 88 F-150. When i start it up, it runs like crap. it sounds real tough, a lot like theres a cam in it. it takes a few block of drivin for the idle to smooth out. I thought it was a problem with the open loop circuit, but it continues when the temp gauge registers sometimes too.

any ideas to what it could be?

f150online.com or ford-trucks.com are probably better choices for ford truck related questions.

Hi,

If its not throwing a CEL, i would still check all the sensors the truck uses before it goes into closed loop (IAT, MAP, TPS, ECT). There very simple sensors to test.

When was the tune up last completed on it including fuel filter, PCV system and so forth?

My 89 Dodge D150 junker i bought was still running like crap after a major tune up. It ended up been a decayed vacuum hose going to the MAP from the TBI.
